Friday Blog Hop (13) Follow Friday (13)

Friday Blog Hop is hosted by Jenn at Crazy-For-Books.   It is a weekend long Book Party giving bloggers a chance to get to know each other and access to new blogs that we all might enjoy! If you haven't stopped by to give the hop a look I highly suggest that you do! Also every week there is a new question posted for us at answer this weeks question is...

“When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?”

I'm not sure there was ever a time where they weren't an important part of my life.  I was always reading or being read to, I have always loved books.  While a trip to the toy store might have been looked at as unnecessary if I said "Mom, can we go to the book store?" We were usually in the car in less than 5 minutes and on our way to the book store.  I appreciate that my mother never tried to take my books away, or tell me they were an unnecessary purchase, and I hope that one day my daughter will love them as well!

Q. In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

I have always been a Disney Littler Mermaid fan, even to this day I LOVE that movie!! The Hans Christian Anderson version use to make me cry though =o(

I'm not sure I can pick just one favorite novel about the Fae, they are one of my favorite things to read about! I will try to make a list of my top 5 favorites!
1. Merry Gentry Series - Laurell K Hamilton
2. Dark Swan - Richelle Mead
3. Iron Fae - Julie Kagawa
4. Faeriewalker - Jenna Black
5. Fever Series - Karen Marie Mooning

“How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) Pile?”

Wow, I just went and checked my goodreads to get the number for this question and it is VERY VERY high.  1,546 and that probably isn't everything since I really started using goodreads and blogging my TBR Pile has exploded, but to be fair I have a lot of stuff that won't be coming out till 2012 and 2013 on my TBR pile on goodreads so that is why it is so crazy high. *Sigh* I hope someone out there is worse than me.

Q. Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

I'm going to have to say that right now Dystopia is my favorite genre...but I don't just have 1 book that made it my favorite.  The Hunger Games Trilogy sucked me in, but quite a few books like Birthmarked by Caragh M. O'Brien, and Divergent by Veronica Roth , Enclave by Anne Aguirre, and so many others have kept my love of this genre fresh and strong!

“Share your favorite post from the last month and tell us why it’s close to your heart!”

I have to say my nearest and dearest blog post would have to be my first post, it was when I decided that I really wanted to blog about books and I haven't looked back since, I have been enjoying these past few months and meeting new people with similar interests.  Lately I haven't been posting as often since summer is coming and my little one is getting ready to start kindergarten so I have been running to do all the meetings and such offered since I am a first time Kindergarten mom, but I promise I will be posting more often once everything settles down =o)

Q. What are you doing to prepare for an upcoming zombie apocalypse and/or the return of Mel Gibson to the silver screen? (Both of which could be terrifying.)

I am terrified of zombies!! I can't watch zombie movies unless I'm okay with not sleeping for a few days, I haven't read many books that I have to do with brain eating zombies so I don't know if that would creep me out, and I can't drive past a cemetery without looking at the fence thinking how helpful it might be.  Now you would think that since I am such a scardy cat that I would have a great plan, but really I have a bat by the front door and the back door, I have enough wood in my garage to board up the ground floor windows, but my garage is quite a hike from my house so that might not be helpful.  My grandfather was big on keeping up a stock of canned foods so in my basement I have a ton of canned foods, and a supply of water.  I also have a boyfriend who likes to hunt so if it became necessary we would have weapons other than my baseball bats.

I think I would much rather deal with the zombies than Mel Gibson coming back to the silver screen *shudders* yes definitely rather take on the zombies!

"What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked?  Which have you disliked?"

I really enjoyed the Harry Potter movies, I wouldn't say that any of them were better than any of the books, but I still really really enjoy them and will stand on a huge line on opening night to see them hehe.  I was not a fan of the first Twilight movie, I thought that it was HORRIBLE, the second and third were better, but the first one was just UGH!  I also feel compelled to say that while I am anxious for the Hunger Games movie I am afraid to see it hehe. I LOVED them books and would hate to have the movie be bad.

Q. How many books do you read in a week? And in what format do you read them, or listen to them?

On a normal week I can get through about 3 books a week, some weeks it is more some weeks it is less though, all depending on what we have going on around my house. I do 98% of my reading on my Nook, but since I have joined an ARC tour site, I will be doing more print book reading.

I think I would have to say I would want to live in the Iron Fey series books.  I would love to spend my days with Puck and Ash, hanging out with Faeries!!

I think I would have to go with Lori from Pure Imagination and Amy and Andye from Reading Teen.  But I guess really the whole truth is I would really like to meet alot of you. I enjoy meeting people who have the same interests as me, which is why i am so looking forward to attending BEA this year.

I don't think I would want to be anyone from the books I read...I'm not sure I could survive all the things they go through lol, But i wouldn't mind dating Roman from Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series hehe

"If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

Yes, If I find an author who can tell a good story and whose writing I like I do tend to look for other books by them to at least give them a try. I'm trying to diversify my genres that I will read as well which is good for when an author I like writes more than one genre.  One of the things I have enjoyed most about blogging the past 2 months is finding new authors, or new books that I might like even if they aren't in my "typical" genre.

"Pick a character from a book you are currently reading or have just finished and tell us about him/her."

I just finished Starcrossed by  Josephine Angelini , Helen is the name of the main female character in this book.  She is a not so normal teenaged girl.  She doesn't want to be popular or stand out she just wants to float by under the radar hoping that no one notices the things about her that are a little different.  She seems to have a great relationship with her father and has a great friend named Claire.  Her life gets turned a little upside down when a new family moves to the island that she lives on. From then on there is love, hate, excitment and danger in her future, and she faces it all pretty well in my opinion.  But instead of reading this you should be trying to get a copy of Starcrossed and be meeting Helen for yourself, I'm sure you will like her and that you will love her story.  Now go...quirt reading this and go introduce yourself to Helen! lol

Q. Do you have anyone that you can discuss books with IRL? Tell us about him/her.

I am very luck to have a close friend who is just as addicted to reading as I am, She never goes anywhere with out her Nook or a book, and at any given point in time I am pretty sure I could pop open the trunk of her car and enter a mini library lol.  We have gone to book signings together and we enjoy the same genres so it is nice to be able to discuss a book or laugh at stupid quotes and such with someone. Although no matter the reason either one of us calls the other for we always end up talking about books in the end.  We have helped each other find some pretty good books through out the years and I'm sure we will continue to throw books at each other and say "read this now!!"

"Outside of books, what is your guilty pleasure?"

Hmmm...My guilty pleasure would be movie time/TV time with the man.  I love watching movies and crazy kiddy TV shows as much as the next mommy (gag me please lol), But that little bit of time between putting the little one to bed and passing out from pure exhaustion is time for the man and I to catch up on whatever TV shows we try to watch during the week or to grab a movie that we have been waiting to see.  And I will tell you nothing is better after a day of Blues Clues and Yo Gabba Gabba, than an episode of Spartacus or Dexter or one of the many other shows we try to catch.

Can't wait to see everyone elses guilty pleasures.

Q. DO YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER?

To some extent yes I do...it is a very bad habit I know...but if a book has a beautiful cover I am more inclined to pick it up and read the back which most of the time hooks me.  I have read some books where I though the cover was hideous and still loved the book so while I am attracted to pretty covers I still will read a book that doesn't have a pretty cover.

"Since today is April Fool's Day in the USA, what is the best prank you have ever played on someone OR that someone has played on you?"

I don't remember every really being pranked or pranking anyone all that well.  The only thing I've ever heard of was that no one showed up to the hospital when my Uncle called to say my cousin was being born (on April 1st).  Everyone thought he was trying to pull a really good prank...When actually he wasn't.

Although my 4yr old got me yesterday...she knows I'm a freak about bugs I hate them...and one of my biggest fears is for there to be a bug in my hair (I have long thick hair so its hard to get a bug out of they get in my hair *bleh*) So she runs up to me and goes Mommy....Mommy!! There is a bug in your hair...now as I'm freaking out running for the mirror she bends over laughing going April Fools!! I almost fell over with relief then tickled her for all she was worth lol.

Q. WHAT IS THE BOOK THAT YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO ADMIT TO LOVING??

Oh boy...this one has to be Lord of the Flies by William Golding...It was one of those books they make you read in school.  It was junior year and it wasn't "cool" to read cause you liked it.  So I had to pretend it didn't finish the book the day I got it, and I had to pretend that I didn't enjoy it when we did discussions and projects on it.  But in truth I LOVED it and I think the only person that really knew was my English teacher.
