Waiting on Wednesday (16)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My picks this week are...
A power she can’t deny. A destiny she’s determined to fight.

When Ari first arrived in the dilapidated city of New 2, all she wanted was to figure out who she was. But what she discovered was beyond her worst nightmare. Ari can already sense the evil growing inside her—a power the goddess Athena will stop at nothing to possess.

Desperate to hold on to her humanity and protect her loved ones, Ari must fight back. But Athena’s playing mind games, not just with Ari but with those she cares about most. And Athena has a very special plan for the brooding and sexy Sebastian.

Ari is determined to defeat Athena, but time is running out. With no other options, Ari must unleash the very thing she’s afraid of: herself.

The first book in this series was great in my opinion and I can't wait to get started on this one. I love Greek mythology, and I love the setting of New 2.

There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series, I read the prequel and the first book and am hooked. I want NEED more right NOW!

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

I think Divergent might have been my favorite book of the year and I can't wait to get into Insurgent!

  1. oooooh all of those sound great! That first cover is really creepy, with the snake coming out of her hair, but it sounds like a great read! Nice picks :)

    Here's my WoW!

  2. I like the cover of A Beautiful Evil. It's pretty and creepy! The story sounds very good!

The rest of the books sound interesting! Great choices! Thank you for sharing!

    Books For All Seasons

  3. YES for A Beautiful Evil. I'm surprised not many people have picked this one. I really liked Darkness Becomes Her, so I'm wondering what the next step is. Same with Insurgent.

I'm so envious of everyone who's already read Half-Blood. I WANT.

    Have an amazing reading week!

    - Asher (from Paranormal Indulgence)

  4. A Beautiful Evil sounds great. I need to read Divergent still, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love it and want to read the follow up too!

Our WoW is at Book Sake. -Jessica
