Review: Demonglass - Rachel Hawkins

  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 368 pages
  • Publisher: Hyperion Book CH; First Edition edition (March 1, 2011)

Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.
That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.
Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.
But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

I had a lot of fun reading this series, when I read Hex Hall I thought wow I hope the next book is as good as this one, but when I started reading Demonglass I quickly found out that it is BETTER! I loved the drastic change in setting, and I also liked the growth that we saw in Sophie.  There was still a lot of whit and humor from the first book. I also enjoyed how Spohie grew to accept her magic and started using it more often and freely.  I think my favorite scene from the book was the fountain scene, I don't want to go into too much detail for anyone who hasn't read this yet but anyone who has read it should know what I'm talking about.  Finishing this book was torture, I sat there for almost a full minuet just pressing next page on my Nook hoping that some miracle would send the next book or at least the first chapter of the next book to me but alas I am not lucky enough to have a magical Nook. I would highly recommend this series to everyone!!

I give this 4.5 stars
